All staff work to promote the well-being and personal development of each resident, by providing care and offering emotional and psychological support as needed. Staff also work to foster opportunities for each resident to have meaningful contact with the wider community.

Staff are expected to understand and adhere to the Scottish Social Services Council Codes of Practice, and also  work towards qualifications which will allow them to register with the Scottish Social Services Council as Residential Adult Care Workers.


As Garvald Glenesk actively work with the principles of social therapy which has its origins in the work of Rudolf Steiner and his understanding of human development, our staff are expected to support these principles and have an interest in working in a Steiner-based setting.

 

Support Workers work on a rota system to a maximum of 39 hours per week. Support Workers will also carry out sleepover responsibilities and ensure the well-being and safety of the residents we support. Duties include medication administration, managing care plans, carrying out risk assessments, personal care tasks and domestic duties such as cleaning, shopping, banking and cooking. Support Workers are expected to take the initiative in dealing with challenging behaviours, personal care and communicating with other care professionals.


Night Support Workers work on a rota system, and combine some domestic chores with caring and supporting the residents who may require assistance during the night.


1:1 Support Workers provide individual 1:1 support to a resident, for an agreed period of hours per week. This period can be spent supporting the resident to tidy his/her bedroom, attending appointments at health centres or hospitals, taking residents out to lunch, or to places where they will feel calm and relaxed, such as local parks, shopping for clothes or personal items or visiting the library.


Relief Support Workers work at each cottage when needed, to cover staff holidays and sickness. The position of Relief Support Worker is more suitable for staff who wish to have a lot of flexibility in the hours and days they work.

  

Finance Officer supports the Manager with the financial aspects of the organisation including the company accounts, invoicing, bookkeeping, payroll and cottage budgets.
